The prospect of direct flights between the UK and Mongolia has been raised with a new pact.
A renewed air services agreement has been signed between the government of the landlocked Asian nation and the UK.
Mongolian flag carrier MIAT has been appointed to operate passenger flights to London.
“The agreement opens up opportunities for direct flights between the two countries,” a statement issued buy the British Embassy in the capital Ulaanbaater said.
The airline added the first of two Boeing 787 Dreamliners to its fleet last year, enabling the airline to expand its international network, including to Frankfurt, Istanbul, and US destinations expected in 2024.
A previous deal on air services between the governments of Mongolia and the UK was established 24 years ago.
The agreement has now been renewed following the departure of the UK from the European Union.
The two parties discussed ways to strengthen mutual co-operation in air, road and railway transportation during a meeting to sign the pact.
The newly signed agreement on air transport includes new provisions covering aspects including fair competition, flight safety, code sharing, take-off and landing slots, ground services and environmental protection.
