Rising UK arrivals help boost tourism to Turkey

The number of UK tourists to Turkey hit record levels last year, official figures show.

Numbers were up by almost 13% year-on-year to reach 3.8 million, according to the Turkish Ministry of Culture and Tourism.

A total of 56.7 million international visitors were recorded in 2023, representing annual growth of 10%.

This saw the country’s tourism income rise by 17% to £42.4 billion, with average expenditure per night for overnight visitors reaching £78.

The figures solidify Turkey as a “powerhouse” in the global travel market, the tourism board proclaimed.

A Turkish Tourism Board UK office spokesperson said: “This impressive growth highlights Turkey’s standing as the top-choice destination for UK travellers.

“Turkey is a country where rich culture and history meet beautiful landscapes, drawing tourists from around the world.

“We aim to build on this growth in 2024.”
