AirAsia India passes 10 million seats as troubles continue; every route competes directly with IndiGo

As AirAsia India’s two owners are both reportedly keen to sell their shares, we look at the carrier’s network, airport, and competition development.

AirAsia India began in June 2014 and its initial three routes had between three and six competitors. The carrier entered the country as LCC penetration reached 64%. Now, every AirAsia India route has direct competition as uncertainty mounts over the carrier’s future.

AirAsia India passed the 10 million seat mark last year as the carrier’s share of the country’s burgeoning domestic market increased to 6.2%.
